Army Research Cell

Mission

Support Army Property Book Officers and the Army Logistics community with timely, accurate creation of nonstandard line item numbers (NSLINs) and management control numbers (MCNs) for COMSEC items and keep the NSLIN Master Catalog error free. Continually provide quality customer support and maintain the highest professional standards.

The Communications Security Logistics Activity (CSLA) recently established the Research Cell for Controlled Cryptographic Items (CCI) which verifies and obtains NSLINs and MCNs for all Army COMSEC users by utilizing the Standard Study Number-Line Item, Number Automated Management and Integrating System (SLAMIS) web-based data mart. The Research Cell assists users by researching and filling in data values or by providing pick lists of valid entries where possible.

SLAMIS uses electronic coordination features that automatically send requests for new NSLINs and MCNs to the appropriate “research cell.” Each of the seven research cells consists of commodity or specialized organizational experts that evaluate each request, assign data values required for each NSLIN Master Catalog record, and approve or disapprove the request. SLAMIS automatically provides email feedback to the requester and updates the NSLIN Master Catalog.

The Property Book Officer (PBO) reporting systems are linked to the Logistics Information Warehouse NSLIN Master Catalog to enable PBOs world-wide to use the same NSLINs for like items regardless of their locations.
